KNYSNA NEWS - A Knysna Municipality employee was left shocked after a vehicle she was travelling in to deliver food parcels in Nekkies was looted recently, allegedly by a group of Nekkies residents.
The incident happened on Saturday 25 April at around 14:00.
According to the employee, who did not want to mention her name, the looters opened the canopy and took the food out of the bakkie.
"The employees fled the scene," she said.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the circumstances surrounding the incident at Uniondale Road, Knysna are still being investigated and that so far, only a case of malicious damage to property has been opened.
Anyone with information that could assist the police with the investigation is requested to contact Sergeant Mario Uithaler of the Knysna detective branch at 044 302 6652 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. The public may also use the MYSAPS mobile application to relay a message.
"We strongly condemn the incident," said acting municipal manager Dr Michele Gratz. "This selfish act caused many families to go hungry and seriously frightened our female driver. We will not tolerate any criminal activity in this regard. If you steal aid, or buy food parcels from criminals, you are taking the food out of the mouths of hungry families."
