KNYSNA - The waters of the Knysna Estuary once again took centre stage this past Saturday as the Knysna Yachting Season was officially opened. Members of the Knysna Yacht Club and invited dignitaries marked the occasion with a cruise around the estuary aboard the luxurious yacht Amber.
The traditional opening ceremony was followed by the designated commodore of the Knysna Yacht Club receiving the customary royal salute, continuing a long-standing tradition associated with the annual launch of the yachting season.
The occasion also signals the beginning of all watersport activities on the Knysna Estuary, with the club's sailing and canoeing activities forming an important part of the area's sporting calendar. Established in 1910, the Knysna Yacht Club has a long history of promoting water sports in the region.
Its sailing, canoeing and other watersport activities have earned the club national recognition.
Saturday's opening therefore not only celebrated the start of the new yachting season, but also highlighted the club's enduring role in Knysna's water sports community.
