New charge expected in Tsengwa murder case

KNYSNA NEWS - A possible new development has emerged in the case involving the alleged assassination of former Knysna mayor and councillor Aubrey Tsengwa, as accused no 2, Thobelani Lakhe (37), is expected to make an unexpected appearance in the Knysna Magistrate’s Court today, Tuesday 8 September.

Lakhe is reportedly due to appear for an additional charge linked to the ownership of a Volkswagen Polo.

It is understood that the charge sheet is currently being processed and has been submitted to the control prosecutor for consideration before the matter can be enrolled on the court roll.

The docket is expected to be sent to court as soon as possible. The exact nature of the additional charge, as well as further details surrounding the vehicle, is expected to become clearer once the matter is formally enrolled and comes before court.

Lakhe’s unexpected appearance comes ahead of the scheduled formal bail hearing of accused no 3, Lonwabo Faleni (33). Lakhe and his co-accused, Vusumzi Gungu (46), are currently being held in abeyance in respect of their bail proceedings.

The three accused face charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Tsengwa and the wounding of three other people.
