PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A ball of wool, a pair of knitting needles and a little spare time may seem like ordinary things, but this Mandela Day they could mean the difference between warmth and hardship for someone in need.
Crafti, an arts and craft shop in Plettenberg Bay, has been appointed the town's official 67 Blankets Ambassador and is calling on the community to help create a blanket of hope for those less fortunate this winter.
Whether it's a knitted or crocheted blanket, a scarf, a beanie or any other handmade item, every contribution will help bring comfort to people facing the cold.
Crafti owner Celia Snowden hopes residents of all ages will join hands to make this year's Mandela Day a meaningful one.
“Together, let's spread warmth, kindness and hope to those who need it most,” she said.
Snowden believes the project is about far more than wool and knitting. “Every stitch will make a difference, and thousands of stitches will bring endless warmth.”
Residents who cannot knit an entire blanket are still encouraged to take part. Every square, every scarf and every beanie represents an act of compassion that honours the legacy of Nelson Mandela, who inspired South Africans to give their time in service of others.
Donations can be dropped off at Crafti, Shop 3, Lions Roars House, 82 Longships Drive, Plettenberg Bay.
To encourage more people to become involved, Crafti is also offering specially priced wool and yarn for those wanting to start their own 67 Blankets project.
“Let's honour this iconic man's life by doing something good for the neediest among us,” Snowden said.
