KNYSNA NEWS - For almost two decades, Clive Nuns devoted his working life to keeping Knysna’s public spaces green, cared for and welcoming - a contribution that will live on long after his retirement.
Nuns, the former Manager: Parks and Recreation at Knysna Municipality, died on 4 August 2026. He had retired in December 2016 after 18 years of service to the Municipality.
It was a career built around a deep knowledge of horticulture and a passion for the spaces that form part of the everyday life of a community.
Knysna Executive Mayor Thando Matika paid tribute to Nuns as a dedicated public servant who took great pride in his work.
“Clive was a dedicated public servant with a deep passion for horticulture. He took great pride in caring for our gardens, green spaces and facilities, and his contribution to the Municipality will be remembered for years to come,” said Matika.
Nuns joined the Municipality in June 1998, bringing with him a Diploma in Horticulture and a National Diploma in Parks and Recreation. Over the years, he served as Superintendent: Parks and Chief Parks before being appointed Manager: Parks and Recreation in August 2010.
In a career spanning nearly two decades, his work touched many of the green spaces and public facilities that form part of Knysna’s landscape. His was often a behind-the-scenes contribution, but one that was visible in the gardens, parks and open spaces enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.
For someone with a passion for horticulture, caring for such spaces was more than simply a job. It was a responsibility - and one that Nuns carried with dedication and pride.
His legacy is therefore not confined to the years he spent behind a municipal desk or in a job title. It can be found in the public spaces he helped nurture and maintain, and in the lasting impression of a man who cared about the work entrusted to him.
“His contribution to the Municipality will be remembered for years to come,” said Matika.
The Municipality extended its sincere condolences to Nuns’ family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time.
