Yellow Level 4 warning as cut-off low brings rain, strong winds to Garden Route

GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - A Yellow Level 4 warning for disruptive rain, wind and waves has been issued for parts of the Western Cape, with the Garden Route among the affected areas.

A cut-off low-pressure system is expected to develop over the south-western Western Cape on Wednesday evening, bringing scattered to widespread rain to the southern and south-eastern parts of the province on Thursday, 3 September.

According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), 15–25mm of rain is expected in affected areas, with 30–45mm possible over the Overberg and Garden Route.

Strong southerly to south-easterly winds of 35–55km/h, with gusts of 60–82km/h, are also expected between Alexander Bay and Plettenberg Bay on Thursday and Friday. Wave heights could reach 4–5.5m.

The weather may result in flooding of roads and settlements, fast-flowing streams, damage to roads and bridges, and disruptions to traffic. Coastal infrastructure, small harbours, and beachfront activities could also be affected.

Residents and motorists are urged to exercise caution, while mariners should take the necessary precautions due to hazardous sea conditions.
