"This year’s selection of gardens will be a departure from the past collection of individual domestic gardens in that we will be including a farm and fynbos garden and a group of 'integrated' gardens on an estate.
"As always, we have tried to find gardens that offer very different experiences: different settings; formal or informal structures; indigenous and/or exotic plants, or simplicity. We hope that our visitors will enjoy them all equally, from the unexpected to the more conventionally beautiful," said Marsja Hall-Green on behalf of PAWS.
The open gardens are:
- Rae Gilbert's Bosky Dell Rose Garden (entrance on the N2 opposite The Heath);
- Graham von Hoesslin’s farm garden (entrance opposite Forest Gate off the N2, approximately 1km from Bosky Dell towards Knysna);
- Schoongezicht Eco Estate Integrated Gardens (entrance off Piesang Valley Road, next to the Plettenberg Bay Golf Course), and
- Snoek-Henkemans garden (Whale Rock Ridge, entrance on the left off road that leads to Robberg Nature Reserve).
"PAWS is enormously grateful to the individual garden owners and also the managers of the private estates for agreeing to open their properties to the public for the benefit of PAWS," said Hall-Green. The four participating gardens will be open from 10:00 to 16:00. There are maps available at Barney’s Kiosk, next to Mugg & Bean at the Market Square Shopping Centre. There will also be maps at each of the gardens.
Tickets are R60 for all four gardens and are available at each of the gardens. For more information contact Marsja Hall-Green on 073 645 9476 or 044 533 4578.
