PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The Plettenberg Bay Local Football Association (LFA) officially launched its very first youth soccer league last Thursday.
The event took place at the New Horizons Community Hall and attracted various community leaders and football development stakeholders.
The launch was attended by Safa Eden Region president Siyabonga Tyhawana, and Johan du Plessis of House of Hope and Glory.
The aim of the youth league is to give young players an early opportunity to showcase their talent with a long-term vision of developing skilled athletes from the grassroots level.
Organisers call on parents to actively support and encourage their children's involvement in sport and thus ensure the success of this initiative.
Nurturing the next generation of stars
Sixolise Mtirara, vice chairperson of the Plettenberg Bay LFA, told Knysna Plett Herald that this initiative is a partnership between Plettenberg Bay LFA, House of Hope and Glory and Chance Youth.
Mtirara said that the formation of a junior league addresses a long-standing gap in local football development.
"We've seen a lot of focus on senior players, while our juniors only get to play in tournaments and friendly matches. Now, with this junior league, we're creating a structured platform for young players to grow," he said.
