Jerome Simonis‚ NSRI Knysna station commander‚ said‚ “We launched our sea rescue craft Jolen and Colorpress Rescuer‚ and our sea rescue vehicle and ER24 ambulance services responded.
"High tide was coming in so rather than risk taking our sea rescue vehicle along the beach to the location of the incident - half way between Brenton On Sea and Buffalo Bay - and possibly be cut off at high tide‚ the two sea rescue craft instead beached at the location where our NSRI medics stabilised and splinted a knee injury suffered by the teenager while sand boarding on the beach.
"It was suspected that the teenager had suffered a dislocation or fracture of his left knee which was splinted and secured by our medics as a precautionary measure. We then carried the teenager‚ secured to a stretcher‚ about a kilometre along the beach to Brenton On Sea where an awaiting ER24 ambulance and paramedic crew took over treatment. They transported the teenager to hospital in a stable condition for X-Rays and further treatment.
"NSRI confirmed later with the teenager’s family that he had suffered torn ligaments to his left leg and was in a stable condition being treated for the injury in a Knysna hospital."
