PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The criminal case against Bitou’s deputy mayor, Nokuzola Kolwapi, has been postponed to Wednesday 9 September, when a trial date is expected to be set.
Kolwapi briefly appeared in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 25 August, before the matter was postponed.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has instructed that Kolwapi be charged with contravening a regulation of the Environmental Conservation Act, following allegations that she fired a 9mm firearm during her son’s umgidi (return-from-initiation celebration) last December.
The instruction to charge her was issued on 5 March and emailed to Kolwapi.
The incident attracted national attention after footage of the alleged shooting had gone viral on social media.
