KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Municipality says it has saved an estimated R9 000 by opting to "go paperless" for a special council meeting held on 14 March – of which the agenda page count totalled more than 1 000 pages per document.
To print each document for all councillors would have taken the tally of pages to well over 30 000, at a cost of between R8 000 and R9 000.
Mayor Eleanor Bouw-Spies said the decision was made to save money and also to achieve ecofriendly goals as set out by the municipality.
“This is also the first special council meeting for 2018 and we are proud to have started on such a positive note,” Bouw-Spies told councillors.
Each councillor was asked to read the agenda on their tablets or laptops, and it was also put up on a big screen so that it could be followed by members in the public gallery.
