KNYSNA NEWS - Community members from the greater Knysna gathered at Memorial Square on Sunday 11 January in a show of unity and hope as Knysna remains under level 4 water restrictions.
According to the Knysna Municipality, Akkerkloof Dam stood at 16% as of 12 January, with an estimated 13 days of usable water remaining if current conditions persist.
Faith leaders, pastors, municipal representatives and residents came together to pray for rain, relief and renewed strength as the town’s water supply remains under severe pressure due to prolonged dry conditions and unpredictable rainfall.
“Every single drop of rain will help. Every single prayer today will help,” said Deputy Mayor Morton Gericke.
For many residents, the gathering served as a moment of quiet reflection and solidarity during a period of growing uncertainty around Knysna’s water security.
The Knysna Joint Operations Committee (JOC) is scheduled to host a media briefing today, 13 January, to provide an update on the town’s water status.
Concerned residents across greater Knysna have raised questions about contingency plans should the municipality reach Day Zero. The Knysna-Plett Herald has requested clarity from the municipality regarding its action plan and awaits a response. Updates will follow.
