KNYSNA NEWS - A 1928 Triumph Super 7 in mint condition along with beautiful Cobras and Minis and a majestic 1959 Jaguar MK2 were among the vehicles that presented an ode to retro engineering and design at the Waterfront, Knysna, on Saturday 22 February.
The "bonnets up" display of about 50 cars, one of the Garden Route Motor Club's Cars@Coffee events, drew many spectators, with the owners of the vehicles more than willing to discuss their specifications and idiosyncrasies with anyone wanting to know a little about them.
The owner of the Jaguar MK2, Stuart McAllister, said it had a "straight six 3.41 engine with twin overhead cams - all original equipment", could reach 200km/h, and at 3000 rpm in overdrive sailed along at 120km/h.
'Future generations'
He said owning such cars came with "the responsibility of preserving them for future generations".

"The club is also the organiser of the annual Knysna Motor Show, which for the past three years has been held on Thesen Island.

"For this year, we are planning a change in approach for the KMS, and rebranding it as a Cars@Coffee event in partnership with Rotary Knysna.

"By doing so, we can invite exhibitors and visitors to contribute through donations to Rotary, and thus by giving for one day our community can benefit in ways that otherwise might not materialise.
"Cars@Coffee under the Rotary Knysna banner will be held on Sunday 27 April at Thesen Island, running from 10am to 3pm."
