PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - An emergency call turned into a heart-warming tale in Plettenberg Bay this weekend.
National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesman Craig Lambinon said the local NSRI received reports of a 70-year-old woman experiencing difficulty while hiking on the Robberg Nature Reserve hiking trail just before 17:00 on Saturday 3 February.
When the crew arrived they found Elizabeth Green, from Wilderness, near the Island determined to continue her hike despite pain in her knees, hips and legs.
The reason for her determination was that she undertook the challenging trail to honour her late husband on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Several concerned hikers stopped to assist Green, but tackled the hike with her after hearing about her motivation.
NSRI crew members brought a Stokes basket stretcher and offered to carry her the remainder of the route, but she refused as she wanted to complete the hike herself.
Supported by the groups of hikers and by the NSRI crew members Green completed the walk without incident.
