KNYSNA NEWS - Two officials from the Knysna Municipality, Sibongile Nelo of the properties department and Marlon Mortlock of parks and recreation, will proudly represent both Knysna Municipality and the Knysna Marathon Club at the 98th Comrades Marathon, taking place on Sunday 14 June.
This year’s up run from Durban to Pietermaritzburg covers about 87km and must be completed within a 12-hour cut-off time.
Knysna’s mayor, Thando Matika, and some senior officials have extended their best wishes to these inspirational runners. Matika said both of them are experienced Comrades runners.
“Sibongile has completed the Ultimate Human Race three times, while Marlon boasts an impressive 14 finishes.
Their commitment, discipline and perseverance both in the workplace and on the road are truly commendable and continue to inspire colleagues and residents throughout the Greater Knysna area.
“To qualify for - and compete in - the Comrades Marathon is a remarkable achievement that requires months of dedication and sacrifice,” he continued.
“Marlon and Sibongile embody the determination and spirit that we value as a municipality, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements and the example they set for others. They are outstanding ambassadors for both Knysna Municipality and our broader community.
“On behalf of Council and the people of Greater Knysna, I wish Sibongile and Marlon a safe and successful race. We will be cheering them on every step of the way.
We also extend our best wishes to all athletes from Knysna who will be taking part in this year’s Comrades Marathon,” Matika concluded. “Their participation highlights the strong running culture and sporting spirit that exists within our town.”
