KNYSNA NEWS - The recent front-page article in Knysna-Plett Herald detailing allegations of fraud at Sunridge Primary School has sparked widespread concern among parents and members of the school community, with many questioning the school's financial management and governance structures.
The allegations, which are currently the subject of both criminal and internal investigations, relate to the alleged misappropriation of funds from the school's bank account through unauthorised transactions.
In response to growing concern, the school's governing body (SGB) issued a public notice on 4 June seeking to reassure parents and the wider community that the matter was being taken seriously.
"The school governing body would like to inform the community that we are aware of the recent article published in the Knysna-Plett Herald. We understand the concern it has caused and would like to assure everyone that the matter is receiving our full attention," the statement read.
The SGB further confirmed that the relevant authorities have been notified and that it is working closely with all parties involved while investigations continue. Community members were also asked to exercise patience and allow due process to unfold.
Knysna-Plett Herald has reported that a fraud case was opened with the police in April after funds had allegedly been redirected from the school's bank account through unauthorised transactions. Knysna detectives are investigating the matter and no arrests have been made.
The Western Cape Education Department has also confirmed that it is attending to the matter through its district office, but has declined to comment on the specific details while internal processes are under way.
The police and education authorities have emphasised that investigations remain at an early stage and have urged the public to avoid speculation.
The individual(s) implicated has/have not been charged and remain entitled to the presumption of innocence until the investigation and any subsequent legal processes have been concluded.
