KNYSNA NEWS - Hornlee Clinic, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that cost R48.7m to construct, has been declared open, despite it not yet being fully operational.
The official opening took place on Tuesday 9 June, marking a substantial upgrade for healthcare services in the Hornlee community.
Premier Alan Winde and Western Cape Minister of Health and Wellness Mireille Wenger joined community members, healthcare workers and local stakeholders at the opening of the facility.
The new clinic has been constructed on the site of the former Knysna Municipality taxi rank and provides significantly more space and improved functionality than the previous facility.
The new clinic will operate five days a week and provide a range of primary healthcare services, including chronic and acute care.
The facility features a patient pre-waiting area, eight consultation rooms, a dispensary, and improved infrastructure designed to support quality, person-centred healthcare.
Services will be phased into the facility during June, and the clinic is expected to be fully operational by 1 July.
Winde said: "Growing communities need growing services. This facility is an investment in our ongoing infrastructure development strides, and an investment in the dignity and well-being of the many residents who will benefit from this clinic."
Wenger said the facility represents an important investment in both patients and healthcare workers.
"The previous clinic served this community well for many years, but we are very excited that this new facility provides a modern, welcoming environment that will allow our healthcare teams to continue delivering quality care while improving access to services for residents.
"The new facility is designed not only to meet growing demand, but also to ensure that residents can receive care in a setting that reflects the value and dignity of every person who walks through its doors.
It will also provide healthcare workers with a more suitable environment from which to serve the community."
The new healthcare facility was built at a cost of R48.7m.
