KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Initiative for Learning and Teaching (KILT), in partnership with non-profit education-focused company Edunova, is holding the first leg of its inaugural Digital Tech Drive at the Knysna Mall today, Friday 28 February.
Recognising that not all schools and learners have access to digital devices, KILT is actively building a bank of reconditioned technology to support education in innovative ways.
Dedicated tech team
With the help of a dedicated tech team, donated, fully functional devices will be serviced and distributed to KILT-supported schools, empowering teachers to deliver engaging lessons in coding, robotics, and integrated learning.
While computer labs have been installed in most schools, demand for access is high.
By expanding the availability of devices, more teachers will be able to implement dynamic, tech-enriched lessons that spark curiosity and excitement in the classroom.
Collecting working devices
To support this initiative, KILT's enthusiastic IT Enabler Team will be at the Knysna Mall today, Friday 28 February and on the last Friday of March, collecting previously loved but working devices, including cellphones, tablets, laptops, and earphones.
The public is urged to drop off unused devices outside Woolworths in the mall.
These devices will be used for coding, robotics, maths, and reading support.
Cyber Safety Station
"Visitors to the mall can also experience the power of digital learning firsthand - try building and coding a robot, learn how KILT is equipping teachers and students with essential digital skills, and visit our Cyber Safety Station to gain crucial tips on protecting yourself and your children from online threats such as phishing scams," KILT said.
"Through this initiative, KILT is not only enhancing digital education in schools but also giving back to the community by sharing expertise and fostering a safer, tech-savvy generation.
"Join us in making a difference - donate your old devices and help power the future of learning!"
