PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Wayne Duvenage, the CEO of the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (OUTA), will be the guest speaker at the Plettenberg Bay Ratepayers Association's annual general meeting on 10 April.
Duvenage will focus on the current political dynamics impacting both national and local government performance and why civil society should not be complacent.
He will also highlight what it means to hold your local municipality to account.
The meeting is scheduled for 17:30 on Thursday 10 April in the Piesang Valley community centre. The public is also welcome.
Inspiration
Duvenage formed OUTA 13 years ago and was instrumental in halting the govern-ment's plan to introduce electronic tolling on urban freeway systems in Gauteng.
Under his guidance, OUTA broadened its focus to oppose all forms of tax abuse, such as corruption and the wasteful spending of state resources, wherever they may occur, even at municipal level.
He has been a source of inspiration to many ratepayers associations and other civil groupings that pursue the same ideals at local level.
Chairperson Steve Pattinson will give his address and will provide budget highlights, the importance of public participation and involvement in local government issues, also addressing the poor quality of senior officials in Bitou Municipality and the results of their appointment.
