KNYSNA NEWS - For 30 years, generations of learners at Knysna Primary School have known the comforting presence of one woman whose quiet dedication helped shape the spiritual heartbeat of the school.
Now, after three decades of volunteer service through Kids in Christ (KiX), the school community is paying tribute to 'Tannie' Olga Swart for a lifetime of compassion, prayer and unwavering commitment.
Swart dedicated herself to serving learners, staff and the wider Knysna community, not for recognition or reward, but out of what colleagues describe as her deep love for God and for children.
Through the years, she became far more than a volunteer. She was a mentor, organiser, encourager and trusted spiritual guide who faithfully showed up week after week, helping to create a nurturing environment in which children could feel valued and supported.
In a heartfelt tribute, the KiX team thanked Swart for being a shining light to so many, adding that the impact of her service would continue long after her retirement from the programme.
"Wat 'n voorreg vir ons as Knysna Primary School om aan die ontvangkant van al jou gebede oor die jare te kon wees," the message read, thanking her for the countless prayers she offered on behalf of the school over the years.
School principal Ivor White said Tannie Olga has been a pillar of strength and a true blessing to the Knysna Primary family, and they are deeply grateful for the decades of love, prayer and devotion she has poured into the school community.
Swart's influence stretched far beyond the classroom. She helped build and guide the KiX ministry at the school alongside a network of teachers, co-ordinators and community members who shared her vision of supporting children through faith-based values and encouragement.
Reflecting on her journey, Swart expressed gratitude to the many people who walked the path with her over the years, including past and present KiX leaders, loyal teachers and administrative staff who helped sustain the programme.
She reserved special thanks for the original group of co-ordinators who helped establish KiX at the school during both critical but very blessed times. "Sacrificing your time, sharing Jesus and His love among believers and non-believers at Knysna Primary School has been an inspirational experience for us all," Swart said in her farewell message.
The school community believes her legacy will endure for years to come through the lives she touched and the values she helped instil in countless children.
As one chapter closes, staff and learners alike are wishing Tannie Olga joy and peace in her new season - knowing her prayers and care for the school will never be far away.
