PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Special police operations along the Garden Route over the past weekend paid off in Plettenberg Bay when three alleged business robbers were arrested.
Southern Cape police spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie said the three, aged between 39 and 50, were arrested last Thursday after an intelligence-driven operation involving various police branches and private security companies.
Pojie said police managed to recover all stolen goods, including jackets, tekkies and caps. "They also confiscated a licenced 9mm Glock pistol and ammunition as well as a Volkswagen Golf TSi that was used during the initial commission of the crime," Pojie said.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court this week.
Pojie said as part of police on the Garden Route's expanded efforts to ensure a safe environment for all, members were deployed on major and secondary routes and executed high density patrols in townships and neighbourhoods.
This led to the arrests of 362 suspects from Thursday evening, 28 July to Sunday morning, 31 July for offences ranging from petty to serious crime, including murder and robberies.
District Commissioner of the Garden Route, Maj-Gen Norman Modishana, praised the members for their vigilance and commitment, while Western Cape Commissioner Lieut-Gen Thembisile Patekile commended and thanked them for their dedication to safeguarding communities within their area.
"The confiscation of illicit drugs and dangerous weapons during this weekend also contributed to the prevention of serious crime such as murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm," Patekile said.
