It said this week was its annual national electricity safety week‚ aimed at educating the public about using electricity safely and responsibly.
“Eskom is hosting a series of activities around the country to highlight the dangers associated with the unsafe use of electricity,” it said.
“We are always striving to prevent injuries and fatalities due to illegal electricity connections.
“The biggest causes of these injuries and fatalities are illegal connections‚ contact with exposed cables‚ vandalism and cable theft.
“We cannot continue to have innocent lives lost as a consequence of the unsafe use of electricity‚ particularly illegal connections‚ hence our intensive campaign this week.”
It thanked its customers for their “patience and support in using electricity sparingly during the early morning and evening peak periods”.
