KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna municipality’s youth desk in collaboration with their youth council organised the biggest youth event in Knysna to date, commemorating the revolutionary youth behind the Soweto Uprising.
The celebrations were held at Loerie Park on Saturday 16 June, being national Youth Day. Kicking things off was new mayor Mark Willemse who challenged Knysna's youth to learn from their peers of decades ago.
'Be brave, work hard'
He encouraged the youth to be brave and grab opportunities and work hard to achieve their dreams.
On the line-up was Knysna's rap star Arab as well as and rapper Antonio Cleophas sharing the stage with the big leagues Duncan, Danger Flex, DJ Bird and Naakmusiq.
The event also featured locals acts such the African poet, Kamva Matshona, who recited a heart-warming poem inspired by the sacrifices made by the youth of 1976, the blood that was shed and the broken dreams.

Paving the way for the big guns, local acts like rapper Elements also took to the stage and DJ Abo was on the decks and had everyone on their feet as they played the hottest sounds in the country at the moment.

Venue filled to capacity
Entertainers kept their audience highly entertained, on their feet singing along or just screaming while admiring the talent. The venue was filled to capacity and there were also food stalls – the organisers thought about everything.
They say, "Save the best for last" and Naaqmusiq wrapped up the evening performing his hit songs and was later joined on stage by Mthokozisi, Arab, Duncan, and Danger Flex who danced in the background. The municipality promised the event was going to be "lit" and it was.
