KNYSNA NEWS - The newly reinstated Knysna Arts Society hosted an exhibition at the Old Gaol Museum on Tuesday 20 February, showcasing over 130 works by about 80 local artists.
The exhibition, titled "Unblocked", featured a variety of mediums including oil, acrylic, charcoal, digital art, Perspex, collage, sculpture and even a "human game".
The opening night saw the revamped venue come to life with artists and art enthusiasts pouring in.

Nkwenkwezi Magama, a sculptor who had some of his works on display, said when he heard from his friend about the exhibition he couldn’t miss the opportunity to share his work and also meet other artists.
“I am showcasing an All Star sneaker sculpture which is titled ‘Sentiment’ – it reflects on my journey as an artist, my appreciation of life's learnt lessons. It's the first pair of sneakers I ever bought for myself.
"It’s been a journey and I’m excited to see how people respond to it as this is my first time sharing my works.”
Veranique de la Fontaine, a painter said, “It is lovely being part of the exhibition. The wonderful works vary and are wonderfully packed and pleasant to look at.”
Explaining the process that went into the creation of her painting, she said, “I let myself be completely free and unblocked, and this is what came out.”
Digital artist Debra de Villiers said she’s always had the talent and the tools to create her works but never really made time for the one thing that makes her happy, until fairly recently.
Her advice for others is to “always make time for what makes you happy”.
The exhibition seemed to have struck the right note on the opening night and looked full of promise as some of the works already had red stickers on them, signifying that they had been sold.
There are still many delightful works on display at very affordable prices.
