PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A 50-year-old man from Knysna, the driver of the tour bus, collapsed and died at the start of this weekend in the Robberg Nature Reserve, despite NSRI attempts to save him.
Robbie Gibson, NSRI Plettenberg Bay deputy station commander said: “On Friday, 20 October, NSRI Plettenberg Bay were alerted to reports of a man who had collapsed and was unconscious at the parking area of Robberg Nature Reserve.”
Gibson said an ambulance was activated and a group of people at the car park alerted NSRI to assist.
NSRI Plettenberg Bay medics and the NSRI Plettenberg Bay duty doctor and Medlife ambulance services were on the scene.
Despite the quick response of the NSRI medics who were on the scene in minutes, “a 50- year-old male, from Knysna, the driver of a tour bus, collapsed and was found pulseless and breathless from a suspected heart attack.”
Gibson said that CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) efforts were commenced when they found the man and the NSRI was joined in treating the man by paramedics from Medlife and the by the NSRI duty doctor, “but sadly after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted, he was declared deceased. “
The body of the man was taken into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services and Police.
Sincere condolences are conveyed to family and friends of the man, from the NSRI.
NSRI assisted to arrange a driver for the tour bus to transport the tourists back to Knysna.
Trauma counselling was arranged for the tour group.
