PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Well-known social activist Siyanda Dlamini was full of praise for Bitou's first citizen as he made his way through Plettenberg Bay as part of his national journey.
During a recent stint between Plettenberg Bay and George, Dlamini was stopped by Bitou Mayor Dave Swart for a quick chat.
He described Swart as a humble man. "It's the first time a mayor stopped his car on the road, just to greet me. This made me feel that I am somebody and am valued," Dlamini said.
He added that he often saw some of the country's leaders, passing him by with 'big black cars'. "This one [Swart], with his small car, decided to stop and show me some love." Dlamini said it was good to see that there were people who loved what he was doing. "I wish more leaders could follow this man."
From Plettenberg Bay he made his way through towards Knysna, Sedgefield and ultimately George for the week.
Dlamini said that his love for his country has grown since he started his campaign. "For this country to move forward or develop peace must be there." About choosing to walk to spread his message, Dlamini said it was a way to connect with others.
"Walking allows me to speak with people from across different generations and backgrounds – they want to walk with me, and they ask me questions.
"People have a hunger for peace, and not enough people are talking about South Africa being a peaceful society. I find people coming to me and sharing the same visions and the same desire to open doors for peace."
