KNYSNA NEWS - A report this week from provincial traffic services indicates that seven people died on the province’s roads over the weekend, one of whom died in Knysna.
According to the preliminary report, the deceased was a pedestrian who died on the N2 at Springveld, on Saturday 21 October.
The Knysna detective branch is investigating a case of culpable homicide following the incident.
Knysna police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said, "Preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was hit by more than one vehicle. He sustained multiple injuries and died on the scene.
"The identity of the deceased is not known yet and the public is requested to come forward with any information that may assist with the identification of the deceased."
The man was dressed in blue jeans with red socks at the time of the incident. Anyone with information may contact Warrant Officer Christoffel Langeveldt at 044 302 6652.
In addition to this, two Knysna motorists were arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
During October, the Department of Transport and Public Works will be focusing on child road safety including road safety talks at schools, seatbelt compliance, learner transport operations, and scholar patrol audits and training.
Kenny Africa, the provincial traffic chief said, “Comprehensive road safety education for children requires the involvement of traffic officers, parents, teachers and other adults in a community.
