PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Police are celebrating a colleague who has worked her way up through the ranks over the past four decades and is still going strong.
Local police spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse said Petra Roberts has achieved what few manage to pull off - 40 years of service.
"The police management of Plettenberg Bay would like to congratulate Roberts for her dedication and loyalty over the past 40 years. Thank you for your contribution. Your work is greatly appreciated," Pieterse said.
Roberts started her career as an administration clerk on 2 July 1981 at the old Plettenberg Bay police station.
In 1994 Roberts not only became a member of the Public Servants Association of South Africa, but also a senior administration clerk.
In 1998 she was transferred to the police finance office.
On 27 January 2001, she reached a major milestone in her long service journey - receiving a 20-year commemoration medal and her first long service certificate.
Fast forward another decade and Roberts received her 30-year long service medal.
On 31 August 2012 she was awarded a further medal for her supporting role in the 2010 Soccer World Cup hosted by South Africa and on 1 April 2013, she also received a police centenary medal.
This month Roberts received her latest accolade, her 40 years long service medal and certificate.
