STORMS RIVER NEWS - Six members of a family from Kwazekele, Gqeberha, including two young boys aged one and three, died on Sunday 13 August after the Mini Cooper they were travelling in was involved in a fiery head-on collision near Storms River.
The Mini Cooper was travelling in the direction of the Western Cape and the second vehicle involved, a Toyota Rav4, was travelling towards the Eastern Cape.
On impact the Mini Cooper overturned and caught alight. All the occupants died on impact, according to a media statement issued on behalf of the Eastern Cape Police Commissioner by Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.
The statement said the six deceased, all from Kwazakele, have been identified as: Sandile Patrick (38), the driver, Noyakhe Regina Heleni (71), Thembela Heleni (51), Zikhona Heleni (27), Kungane Heleni (3) and Azingce Heleni.
The two occupants of the RAV, a male and female from Dubai, sustained minor injuries, said the statement.
Naidu clarified the origin of the two injured people as tourists from Dubai, not Switzerland, as originally reported by roads department authorities.
The horror accident happened on Sunday at about 17:30 on a stretch of road along the N2 highway in Tsitsikamma, said Simon Zwane, spokesperson of the Road Traffic Management Corporation, on Monday 14 August.
The accident occurred near the N2 -9 21,6E marker near Storms River/Humansdorp.
Naidu confirmed that police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
The Toyota Rav 4 which was involved in the accident.
