PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plettenberg Bay police are clamping down on the illegal drug trade in the town and this has led to ridding the streets of thousands of rands' worth of drugs.
Police spokesperson Captain Marlene Pieterse said the most recent operation led to the arrest of a 32-year-old foreign national.
“Police acted on a tip-off from the community and arrested the man for allegedly dealing in drugs on August 2, 2017 at about 09:30,” she said, explaining that the man was arrested while he was allegedly on his way to Qolweni to deliver drugs.
“Police noticed the man and searched him. They found 30 sealed packs of Mandrax tablets in his possession.”
She added that not only was the suspect arrested on the spot, but information obtained led them to his house in Kwanokuthula.
“Police carried out a search of the home and found 838 sealed packs of Mandrax tablets in the house. The drugs have an estimated street value of R43 300. The drugs were confiscated.”
Local police station commander Colonel Nolan Michaels praised the community for helping police in their fight against the illegal drug trade. He also commended police officers for acting on the information, and successfully arresting the suspect and confiscating the drugs.
