KNYSNA NEWS - The quest to track down the master of the braaibroodjie in Knysna and Plettenberg Bay has officially come to an end, with the conclusion of Knysna-Plett Herald's Braaibroodjie Master competition last weekend.
On Saturday 10 September a battle of the braaibroodjies played out at the Oakhill Sports Campus (OSC), with our selected champions of the art taking to the braaibroodjie arena to battle it out.
With their knives, forks, spoons, grids and special secret braaibroodjie ingredients at the ready, finalists Herman Hardick, Lizé Groenewald, Merwe Vrey and Marlene Oelf descended on the OSC for the official tasting day of the competition.
After preparing their braaibroodjies, each contestant was tasked with managing their fire and toasting their masterpieces to perfection.
By the time it came for the judging by KPH editor Chris du Plessis, Oakhill Head of School Graham Howarth, Knysna Mayor Aubrey Tsengwa and Knysna Deputy Mayor Alberto Marbi, their mouths were watering.
Each contestant presented their champion to stake their claim, and all were delicious, but only one could be the outright victor.
After some careful deliberation and closely scored judging, Herman Hardick's braaibroodjie was victorious and he was officially crowned as Knysna-Plett Herald's Braaibroodjie Master!
Read more about Herman and his recipe in next week's edition of the KPH.
