KNYSNA NEWS - Efforts to eradicate the usage and trafficking of drugs in Knysna yet again yielded positive results following the confiscation of drugs with an estimated street value of R71 000 in Hornlee, Knysna.
Information was received over the weekend of 14 October from members of the community and the police acted on it.
"This bust is also evident that the community’s cooperation to rid their streets of drugs helps. We invite them to come forward with any information that can assist us in bringing the culprits to book," said police spokesperson sergeant Chris Spies.
First incident
Members on patrol received information about a suspect with drugs in his possession, walking towards a house at Fontein Street, Hornlee on Thursday 12 October at about 21:25.
They found the suspect (29), searched him and confiscated 970 Mandrax tablets with a street value of about R48 000.
Second incident
A 32-year-old suspect was arrested after drugs worth about R23 000 was found at his residence in Kalender Street, Hornlee on Friday 13 October, at about 13:30.
Once again, police had acted on a tip-off. When they searched the house, 460 Mandrax tablets were found at the residence.
Both suspects were due to appear in court.
Knysna police station commander Colonel Atwell Metu commended the members for the arrests and confiscations.
The Eden Cluster commander, Major General Oswald Reddy, also commended the members for their dedication and encouraged them to endure in their endeavours to create a safer environment for the inhabitants.
"These concerted efforts to curb the influx of illicit goods and drugs into our province and cluster have yet again yielded excellent success following these arrest and will continue."
