KNYSNA | BITOU NEWS - Rugby club Knysna United have enjoyed a streak of good results since their first loss of the season last month, earning their third win in a row against Prince Albert last weekend.
Knysna United's first and only loss of the season so far came against Happy Hearts at Loerie Park on 30 April.
But, since then, they've been on a welcome run of good form, earning two wins on the trot by beating Spring Roses in Oudtshoorn the following week and Silver Stars in Knysna the week thereafter.
Looking to continue the run of good form, they next faced a visit from Prince Albert, who travelled to Loerie Park on Saturday
21 May to take on a side looking to go top of the log in the SWD Super League B.
The two clubs' second teams played first as per custom, and the day got off to a promising start for Knysna United as their troops emerged as 35-19 victors.
This win moves Knysna United's second team up into eighth place on their log.
For the first team, the game would be a chance to move into first place in the league, but they would need a strong bonus point win.
Ever determined, Knysna United did just that, running in seven tries against Prince Albert to record a 43-26 win.
This takes them top of the log, one point ahead of Happy Hearts who are in second place.
While Knysna United were making a move at first place, Jaguars and Sedgefield Eagle Stars' woes at the bottom end of the SWD Super League A log continued last Saturday.
Jaguars played away, travelling to the halfway point between George and Mossel Bay to take on Groot-Brakrivier.
In the tussle of the third teams, Groot-Brak emerged 50-0 victors. Next up in the second team game, Jaguars were able to register points but still suffered a 52-7 loss.
The first team match was far closer but Jaguars were still overpowered by the home side who won 27-12.
Meanwhile, Eagle Stars hosted Heidelberg in Sedgefield. As with Jaguars, Eagle Stars' third team could not register a point and were handed a 40-0 defeat.
The second team also endured a large loss, losing by the same margin except the scoreline was 43-3.
The first team match was closer, and were it not for a few sloppy minutes of madness from Eagle Stars, could have had a better outcome.
However, Eagle Stars lost this game 43-9.
