KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Warriors recently took part in the Eden Indigenous Tournament in George and are now boasting 13 players who will represent the region at the provincial games in Cape Town this weekend, 27 to 29 August.
With George Talmaggies as their manager, Warriors took part in three of the eight disciplines at the Games across three days in George.
In the 'Diketo' discipline which took place on 2 August, four players were selected to represent the Eden team, all four of whom are Warriors athletes - Rushane Prins, Dealan Kampher, Wakisha Blaauw and Britney Wildeman.
The 'Dibeke' discipline was also played on 2 August. Here 14 players were selected for the Eden team, with eight hailing from Knysna - Lynn Kayster, Laurencha Barnard, Desmonita Miller, Bradley de Vos, Fanus Leo, Hyran Williams, Raymondo Titus and Jonathan Booysen. Lastly for the Knysna Warriors was the 'Drie Stokkies' discipline on 7 August. Four players were chosen to represent Eden, with Kealan Williams the sole player from Knysna in this group.
The Indigenous Games traditionally consist of eight different codes: Dibeke (ball game); Diketo (aka 'klippie'); Drie Stokkies (triple jump); Intonga (stick fight); Kgati (skip rope); Kho-kho (cat and mouse); Morabaraba (board game); and Ncuva (board game).
