PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - About 400 athletes and weekend warriors descended on Plettenberg Bay this Easter holiday to participate in the popular Buco Easter Adventure Weekend, consisting of a variety of events for the entire family including trail runs, mountain bike rides and a surf-ski challenge.
Organiser James Stewart from Muddy Foot Adventures says the weekend was a massive success and participants were “over the moon”.
Most of the events were hosted around Cairnbrogie on Airport Road and kicked off with trails runs and mountain bike rides on Saturday 31 March.
The trail runs consisted of a variety of options, from a 1.5km for beginners and children, up to 16km for the more adventurous runner.
The mountain bike rides also catered for all skill levels and the surfs-ski challenge – now in its 11th year – rounded up the weekend on Sunday.
“The event showed good growth this year, especially with the introduction of a new mountain bike ride,” Stewart says.
The event was more than just working off those Easter eggs as it also served as a fundraising initiative for several charities.
These included the #SoundstheCall initiative, Sabrina Love, NSRI and the Robberg Coastal Corridor.
“Cairnbrogie was at the heart of the June fires last year and the #SoundstheCall has made a huge impact on helping our volunteer firefighters get properly equipped, and they were given a cheque of R5 000 from Buco Adventure Weekend and also raised funds through the stallholders at Cairnbrogie on the day.”
