PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Whether you are a serious athlete or a weekend warrior, this year's Buco Easter Adventure Weekend will have an event for you.
Last year, about 400 athletes descended on Plettenberg Bay for the event which has not only become a popular one on the area's sporting calendar, but also an opportunity to showcase the town's natural beauty. It included a series of events including trail runs, mountain bike rides and a surf-ski challenge.
This year will be no different on the action front. Organiser Muddy Foot Adventure's James Stewart announced that this year the event will kick off on 20 April with trail runs at Cairnbrogie Farm and the Plett Trail Park. The runs will cater for all ages and levels of fitness. There will be a 1.5km pram-friendly event, a 5km, a 12km and a 16km event for the more adventurous.
This will be followed by the Kids' Bike Ride for U9s and U11s, who will be riding a loop course for an hour to see who can complete the most laps.
Rally-style ride
In the Adventure Rally Ride, teams of two follow a rally-style route with a book of instructions around Cairnbrogie and the surrounding MTO plantations.
The whole day will be complemented by stalls selling food and other wares in aid of Plettenberg Bay's volunteer firefighters.
On Easter Sunday, athletes will participate in the 12th running of the Easter Surf Ski Challenge.
During the morning, participants will be racing over a 12km course and at about lunchtime the Dash for Cash will take place. Paddlers will race 1 000m in a knockout event to see who will walk away with the lion's share of R15 000 prize money.
"Each event has an element of adventure and caters for all levels of competitors. With all the events being filmed for SuperSport it is a great way to show off some of the natural beauty of Plett. All events take place in beautiful naturals surroundings," Stewart said.
He added that what makes the event unique is that the mountain bike ride and the Dash for Carsh are the only ones of their kind in the region.
"These events have been happening over Easter in Plett for the past 12 years," he concluded.
