PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - Plett newcomers Y2K Football Club are discovering just how demanding life in the South African Football Association (Safa) Eden Regional Men's League can be after suffering a heavy 6-1 defeat against the Black Cats FC at Lawaaikamp Stadium last weekend.
Having recently secured promotion to the regional competition, Y2K is still adjusting to the higher level of football, while the Black Cats are enjoying an impressive run at the top of the standings.
The home side made an early breakthrough after building pressure down the left flank, as Xolani Mandla found the back of the net to give the Black Cats a 1-0 advantage.
Y2K showed glimpses of their attacking potential and managed to compete in midfield, as both teams looked for opportunities to extend their scoring. However, the Plettenberg Bay side went into the half-time break trailing by a goal.
The second half proved a different story as the Black Cats stepped up their attacking intensity and exposed gaps in the visitors' defence.
Mandla struck again to double the home side's lead, before Henristot Kawaya made it 3-0. Y2K struggled to contain the hosts' attacking movement, particularly on the flanks, as the Black Cats continued to dominate.
Mphumzi Kalolo added the fourth goal, leaving Y2K with an uphill battle. Mandla completed an impressive individual performance by scoring his third and fourth goals of the afternoon to stretch the advantage to 6-0.
Y2K refused to leave without something to show for their efforts, and Likho Dlisani eventually found the net with a consolation goal to make the final score 6-1.
The result leaves the Black Cats firmly at the top of the standings with 15 points from six matches.
Y2K, meanwhile, occupies fourth place from the bottom with four points from five fixtures. Their record includes one victory, one draw and three defeats as they continue their adjustment to regional league football.
