KNYSNA NEWS - The KLFA Super League is up and running again, with two weeks of games now under the belt in the second division of local club football.
The Super League kicked off its 2021/22 season on 5 and 6 March. This season sees 14 teams take part, the same number as in 2020/21, with a number of local clubs entering junior/second teams into the league for development.
These include three clubs whose first teams take part in the KLFA Domestic League - Pine Stars, FC Rebels and Voota - with the addition of Red Eagles whose first team plays in the Safa Eden Regional Men's League.
Of the four, only Pine Stars' second team has taken part in the KLFA Super League before, finishing sixth in the previous season.
Some sides were not able to start their campaign on the first weekend of the new season, but the bulk of the participating clubs got their first pair of games out the way. The rest got matters going on 12 March, when eight matches were played.
The biggest win from the first two rounds belongs to Mthatha City, who dispatched Future Stars 8-1 last Saturday.
They were, however, only able to earn a 1-1 draw against Southern Stars in the first weekend, and are in second place on the log.
Top spot belongs to Pine Stars at the moment, whose season got off to the desired start courtesy of wins over Hot Stars (3-0), who were relegated from the Domestic League last season, and Voota (4-1). Southern Stars lie third on four points, and Young Brothers are fourth, also on four points.
