KNYSNA NEWS - The Knysna Kavaliers Cricket Club delivered a commanding performance to secure a nine-wicket victory over Union Stars 1 in their SWD quarter-final match at Bridgton Sportsfield last Saturday.
Captain JP Ellis won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that paid dividends as the Kavaliers' bowling unit executed their plan with precision.
They restricted Union Stars 1 to a modest 118/6 in their 20 overs.
Stefan May led the bowling attack with an economical 1/5, while Irvin Campher (1/10) and Francois Bothuys (1/12) kept the pressure on.
Justin Meyer chipped in with 1/20 and a spectacular run-out, and Mesuli Vuba claimed 1/24, ensuring Union Stars struggled to build momentum.
Chasing 119, the Kavaliers made light work of the target, powered by a blistering performance from Ellis.
He smashed a destructive 72 off just 42 balls, including seven fours and six sixes, setting the tone for the chase. He was ably supported by Ruan Terblanche, who played a stylish knock of 40 from 23 balls, featuring four fours and two sixes.
The pair's aggressive batting ensured the Kavaliers reached the target in just 11.1 overs, losing only one wicket in the process.
This convincing win has propelled the Kavaliers into the semi-finals of the tournament, which will be played at the Rec in Oudtshoorn at 10:00.
