CRICKET NEWS - The Garden Route Badgers cricket team has recorded two consecutive victories in their last two matches in the Cricket SA One-day Cup, but they will miss out on a place in the play-offs.
On Wednesday 11 March, George van Heerden and his team thrashed the SA Emerging XI by 10 wickets at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn.
The big hero was Banele Cele, who became only the second player in the history of Garden Route Badgers cricket to bag seven wickets in an innings. He finished with figures of 7/19 (in 10 overs) as the Emerging XI was dismissed for only 71.
The Badgers only needed 12.4 overs to chase down the modest target (74/0) with Ruan Terblanche (30*) and Yaseen Valli (38*) for a 10-wicket bonus-point victory.
On Sunday the Badgers hosted Limpopo Impala, also at home. After being put in to bat, the Badgers - with a brilliant century by Kyle Jacobs 131 (141 balls; 1x6, 11 x4) - amassed 299/6 in their allotted 50 overs.
He received good support from Valli (68 from 62 balls; 1x6, 6x4) and Van Heerden (57 from 54 balls; 1x6, 3x4). The Limpopo Impala with Emmanuel Motswiri (59), CP Klijnhans (49) and Ludwig Keaster (44) challenged with a threatening run chase, but the visitors fell short as they were dismissed for 266 (47.2 overs).
The Badgers won by 33 runs.
