PLETTENBERG BAY CRICKET NEWS - Plett local Jean du Plessis is ready and raring to go for the Cape Cobras' Momentum One-day Cup (MODC) clash with the Warriors tomorrow, 27 January, as the side hopes to bounce back from its loss against the Lions in its first game.
Prior to the start of the clash with the Lions at Senwes Park in Potchefstroom, Du Plessis was presented with his Cobras cap.
"It was a special moment being presented with my first cap and receiving support from all the players and staff around me," he said. "It gave me immense confidence seeing that everyone wants me to achieve and do well for the team."
He was able to carry this confidence out to the middle too, as he helped stabilise the Cobras innings in the middle overs, courtesy of a 56-run partnership for the fifth wicket alongside Christiaan Jonker.
Du Plessis bagged the second highest score with a measured 34 off 58 deliveries before he was given out LBW in a decision that could've gone either way.
"People have said that I was unlucky with my dismissal as I might have been outside the line of off stump, but I was more disappointed with the timing of my dismissal than the decision that was made," Du Plessis said.
The Cobras were ultimately dismissed for 221, and the Lions cruised to a six-wicket victory with 10.4 overs remaining, thanks to a brilliant Ryan Rickleton century. Despite the tough loss, Du Plessis said he was "happy with how his debut game went".
He is also eagerly awaiting the game against the Warriors, where he will come up against former club teammate at the Plett Pioneers, Stephan Tait.
"I am very much looking forward to the next game, we have a lot to play for. I think there will be a lot less nerves before the next game and a lot more clarity in terms of what we can expect of conditions and the opposition," he said. "I'm excited to go out there and enjoy myself."
