PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - On 5 May, 339 people ran, jogged and walked the Harkerville Parkrun course, of whom 257 were first-timers. Representatives of 16 different clubs took part.
The event was made possible by 16 volunteers.The first male Parkrunner was Sivuyile Qole who recorded a time of 17:19, and the first female Parkrunner was Sally-Anne Grinter who recorded a time of 25:45.
The Parkrun concept has been a phenomenal success story in South Africa, with Bruce Fordyce having initially brought the concept over from the UK over five years ago. There are now 136 Parkrun locations all over the country, and over half-a-million registered Parkrunners in SA alone.
The Knysna Parkrun has been going for over three years, and now the Harkerville Parkrun will give residents of Plettenberg Bay and the surrounding communities access to a parkrun that is closer to home.
The Parkruns take place every Saturday morning at 08:00, in a park or park-like or open area, and are always 5km. Runners and walkers are welcome.
Venue:
The field opposite the Harkerville market on the N2 between Knysna and Plett, about 22km from Knysna. You should get there at around 7:30/07:45.
