KNYSNA POLITICAL NEWS - Knysna Social Democratic Party (KSDP) is the newest kid on the Knysna political block and will contest the local government elections on 27 October.
The party was launched on 19 March and will be vying for a seat in the delicately balanced (or unbalanced, depending on your view) Knysna Council.
This week KSDP chairman Themba Bosman told Knysna-Plett Herald (KPH) that the fledgling party held its policy conference in March and is geared to go all-out in the local political arena.
"We adopted the party's policy that is binding to every member of the organisation. We believe that the South African communities need young and fresh perspectives," he said.
Bosman emphasised that the aim of the party is to bring services to the people. "We are prepared to fight gender-based violence, injustice, bias in employment matters and bringing back the failed projects that will bring development within the wards,'' he said.
He said the party will be representing the community and will stand up against all the wrongdoings that are taking place in their community.
"We will address corruption in allocation and distribution of RDP houses. We will make sure that the municipality hires local people and we will bring programmes that will enhance youth development. We will give young people skills and create job opportunities," he said.
The elected party leadership are Themba Bosman as the chairman, Simphiwe Mene as secretary and Simphiwe Matandela as treasurer.
*The party submitted its application to the Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission on 28 May.
