KNYSNA NEWS - A French tourist who fell and fractured a leg while hiking at Robberg, Plettenberg Bay, on Wednesday, July 19, is recovering in hospital after swift action by the NSRI and Medlife paramedics.
NSRI Plettenberg Bay deputy station commander Robbie Gibson said that their duty crew were activated at 17:22 yesterday following reports from a Chinese man that his friend, a 53-year-old Frenchman, had fallen and suffered a fracture to his right leg while they were hiking on the Robberg Nature Reserve trail.
They are said to be on holiday in Knysna.
The rescue crew and medics hiked to the injured man and he was found to be suffering fractures to his right tibula and fibula sustained in the fall, Gibson said. The patient was stabilised, splints were applied to the fractured leg and he was hiked out of the reserve in a stretcher.
“We were met by Medlife paramedics while hiking to the Robberg car park and on arrival there, the patient was transported to hospital by ambulance in a stable condition,” said Gibson, adding that the man was to undergo surgery and is expected to make a full recovery.
