Update
KNYSNA NEWS - The Gift of the Givers Foundation is continuing to supply water to communities who have no consistent water supply in Concordia and elsewhere in Knysna.
This despite an attack on one of their vehicles on Sunday 18 May.
This was confirmed by Knysna Gift of the Givers spokesperson Mario Ferreira. He said the organisation was not going to let "one individual" upset and keep other people from having water.
"We're definitely continuing to deliver water," said Ferreira.
Deep concern
Unrest flared up again in Concordia on Sunday with streets being barricaded with burning tyres.
The protests were over the lack of water in the area - and followed hot on the heels of a commotion the previous Sunday, 11 March, when the registration process for the coming by-election in Ward 8 was abandoned due to a clash between dissenting ANC factions.
A statement released by ANC Western Cape provincial secretary Neville Delport on Sunday said the ANC in the Western Cape has noted with "deep concern" the fact that a Gift of the Givers team came under attack while delivering water to residents in Concordia - "and that some of those allegedly involved may have been supporters of the ANC".
Calls for Tsengwa's return
Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said, according to official reports, no case was opened about the stoning incident.
A community leader in the area, Mervyn Kolo, confirmed that tyres were burnt during Sunday's protests.
He said there had been calls for the return of former mayor Aubrey Tsengwa "because while he was mayor we never had such a bad situation".
