KNYSNA NEWS - Knysna’s plight for assistance after disaster hit the town almost two months ago has quickly become national and international news, with sponsorships and donations still streaming in from many places all over the country and abroad.
One such is from Kimberley in the Northern Cape.
On Saturday, July 15, some residents of this historical diamond mining town proved that their pockets, and hearts, were as deep if not deeper than the famous Big Hole for which the town is best known, when they organised the Knysna Fire Relief music festival, using the hashtag #firesmustfall all over their posters.
Daniel Williams, owner of the Occidental Bar, along with Marius Kruger and Martin Kotze, organised the event that was attended by almost 2 000 people.
With music being the order of the day, 14 bands and solo artists from across South Africa entertained the crowd until late, with about 40 different stalls offering an assortment of goods on sale.
Penny Vagrant, a band that travelled all the way from Johannesburg to support the event, entertaining the crowd on Saturday, July 15.
At the time of going to print R130 000 was raised and will be given to the Kynsna Fires 7th June (Facebook) group.
For this audience member-turned-temporary reporter, it was such a pleasure to be part of something that mattered, knowing that humans were not just aimlessly spending, but doing it with a big heart to benefit fellow souls in need.
