GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A police officer from George has been implicated in what appears to have been an attempted house break-in in Sedgefield at the end of August.
According to an anonymous source, the 29-year-old suspect was allegedly also found with tik in his possession. This was not the first time either, the source said, as the policeman was allegedly caught with tik on two previous occasions and sent for rehabilitation both times.
Southern Cape spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie confirmed that the suspect is a police officer based at the George Police Station.
The suspect was scheduled to appear in the Knysna Magistrate's Court on 2 September but the case was not placed on the court roll. A disciplinary process will run parallel with the criminal investigation.
According to Fidelity ADT, the security company that responded to the scene in Bleshoender Street, the resident of the property activated his panic alarm on the evening of Friday 30 August after hearing noises in the garage.
The company's Garden Route branch manager Pieter Meiring said armed response officers "along with members of the George SAPS" responded to the scene and the suspect was quickly apprehended where he was hiding inside the garage.

On the allegations relating to drugs, Pojie said, "I cannot divulge information about previous possessions of tik or rehab that the member might or might not have been subjected to, as such matters and processes are regarded to be internal matters between the SAPS as an employer and the employee. It is therefore regarded as privileged information."
The NPA did not provide comment by the time of going to print.
