PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - The 53-year-old man accused of the murder of former Plettenberg Bay detective Anneke “Nicky” van Heerden has been named as Bevan van Druten.
Van Druten is well known as a driftwood artist from Wilderness, now living in Plett. It is believed that Van Druten and Van Heerden was in a romantic relationship.
He is charged with murder and appeared briefly in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate’s Court today, Wednesday 21st of January before Magistrate Zukiswa Hans.
NPA spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the case has been postponed to Monday 26 January for his legal representative “to come on board, for a full bail profile and a possible bail application”.
The State will oppose his bail application, said Ntabazalila.
Observation
Ntabazalila said Van Druten is being referred to the district surgeon for observation in the meantime.
Van Heerden’s body was found at Rivertides, Keurbooms Beach, near the Keurbooms Lagoon at about 22:30 on Sunday night, 18 January, said Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg in an earlier statement.
Twigg said a murder case was registered at Plettenberg Bay police after Van Heerden’s body was found.
He said police members who responded to a complaint of a woman who was screaming found her body next to a vehicle, and medical personnel declared her dead at the scene.
