GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The name change of the Garden Route Food Pantry to SA Harvest - Garden Route will have many benefits. It will open the way for 40 more tons of food to be sent to the organisation every month. That is the message of Carl van Blerk, regional manager / owner of the organisation.
The new name will come into effect on Monday 1 November.
Van Blerk said on Tuesday 26 October that the aims are still the same. "We will get more assistance for funds. The biggest benefit is access to more food."
According to Van Blerk the very exciting new development is the culmination of many months of discussions, visits and presen-tations to the SA Harvest management of South Africa.
"From the very first conversation that I had with SA Harvest CEO Alan Browde and with COO Ozzy Nel, there was a connection that sparked an exciting way forward," he said.
"SA Harvest was my first call when seeking assistance for the work we do in the Garden Route, as they share the same passion and mission as I have envisaged for over a decade; and that is to end hunger in South Africa.
"SA Harvest does this by taking a revolutionary approach, including addressing the systemic causes of hunger and leveraging appropriate technology, while simultaneously tackling the immediate food security crisis through rescuing nutritious food and delivering it where it's needed most."
He said with the skills and resources that they will have at their disposal under the banner of SA Harvest - Garden Route, they can reach further and touch lives in a more meaningful manner.
"No child should go hungry. No child should die from malnutrition. We ask the local community to continue their support of the warehouse - as we will still need your contributions and donations going forward. When you see the new truck, branded as SA Harvest, offloading nutritious meals and collecting much-needed donations, please wave and know that it's still us who are working hard to end hunger."
