KNYSNA NEWS - On Mandela Day, 18 July, Fraaisig Primary School held a clean-up in the area closest to the school, promoting philanthropy and giving in memory of the service of the beloved late President Nelson Mandela.
The learners were divided into groups to tackle the cleaning in Rykmanshoogte, Fraaisig, and Lamco areas.
The clean-up initiative expanded into a food and clothing drive, with the caring young learners delivering groceries to residents at Vermont Old Age Home.
Fraaisig Primary, in partnership with the Ecked organisation, encouraged learners, teachers and parents to knit beanies and gloves for those in need during the cold months.
The finished products were donated to Vermont Old Age Home.
Fraaisig Primary principal Constance Stuurman believes that a single act of kindness grows roots in the community, which is a vital lesson passed on to the learners.
The learners were invested in Mandela Day, showing how a community can take hands and help one another.
The school looks forward to expanding the initiative next year and expresses gratitude to parents and students for their dedication and involvement in making a difference.
